| Innovative minds from the business world, public services, educational institutions, knowledge hubs and creative industry have joined forces in the foundation of “Creative City Lab”. Far West has become a partner of Creative City Lab in order to participate in the development of practical and applicable knowledge on sustainability. Creative City Lab offers the perfect opportunity to take the actual first steps towards a collective implementation of this knowledge. In the summer of 2009, a group of students started a case study regarding the Amsterdam district of Geuzenveld in Amsterdam Nieuw West: developing a creative and innovative carbon-neutral concept for an existing housing estate. These twenty-five students with outstanding references have been carefully selected to work on this assignment fulltime, in 5 multidisciplinary teams during a period of six months. These teams are to conduct research, analyse and formulate hypotheses, and come up with solutions in a number of key areas — energy-efficiency (technique and use); local production of renewable energy; sustainable renovation; new technologies; waste and water management. |
